The project originated from a tea shop we designed two years ago, now undergoing a redesign to adjust to a new business model, effectively splitting the original space into two separate retail establishments: a women’s fashion brand and a tea shop.
Maintaining the architectural integrity of the original building, we preserved the first storefront, retaining the tea shop’s distinctive image. On the second storefront, we effectively divided the space into two distinct shops. These two business models operate independently yet coexist harmoniously with the original architecture, contributing to the streetscape and the community at large.
The women’s fashion collective presents itself with both subtlety and warmth, utilizing high-contrast materials that resonate with the brand’s tone. Even within a compact space, we ensured a layered spatial experience, using the texture of the materials themselves to enhance the spatial dialogue.
The use of black square tiles and burl wood panels creates a dynamic interplay of black and burgundy tones, infusing the space with a unique language—warm, serene, yet distinctly personalized.
Under the premise of preserving its brand identity, the tea shop harmonizes its color scheme with the overall aesthetics. To manage construction costs, we retained the original soft furnishings and brand elements, maximizing the reuse of items to extend their utility in the new space.
The tea shop’s small storefront continues to interact with the street scene, where the sunlight spills onto the cozy seating at the entrance, enveloping it in a warm glow. This spot on the community street offers a temporary refuge—a haven from the elements.
In hues of dark brown and complemented by vintage patterned tiles, the Tea Shop exudes an antique and romantic charm, inviting passersby to step in and connect with the community in a cozy, symbiotic setting. The spatial language fosters deeper, sustained connections with customers, creating a representative and impactful space.
