Broken is an ongoing investigation into breaking wood. It is an exploration in finding ways for the skills of a woodworker to fuse with the behavior of the material bringing forth something that neither of us could do on our own.
In my work I combine skills of cabinetmaking, wood carving and furniture design with an aim to produce high quality work that will show the uniqueness of the material.
Wood was once the living body of a tree. Wood cracks, breaks, and has defects. Often these pieces are discarded as unwanted, but their value should be embraced as unique.
When given a chance, a generous collaboration between the maker and material can grow.
